Early & Personal Life

Aaditya Thackeray is the grandson of late Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray. He is the son of Shiv Sena leader Uddhav and Rashmi Thackeray, and has a younger brother Tejas, who is a photographer. He is the nephew of MNS chief Raj Thackeray.

Career

Aaditya Thackeray has proposed 24 hour zones in Mumbai which will lead to restaurants and malls being able to be open all night. He is a poet and a lyricist, his first book of poems ‘My Thoughts in White and Black’ was published in 2007,and released a private album called ‘Ummeed’ for which he penned all eight songs.

Controversy

In 2010, Aaditya Thackeray carried out a book burning agitation against Rohinton Mistry’s ‘Such a Long Journey’ to being included in Mumbai University’s Literature reading list. 

Aaditya Thackeray also defended the ink attack that the Shiv Sena carried out on journalist Sudheendra Kulkarni. 

On 12 October 2015, Kulkarni was attacked by Shiv Sena activists for organising a book launch for former Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri. Shiv Sena alleged that Kulkarni had disrespected Indian soldiers by sharing a stage with Kasuri, and his attackers blackened his face and clothes with paint. Following the attack, Kulkarni continued with the book launch with his blackened face and clothes.
