Controversy

An undergraduate student in Maharashtra's Amravati district had alleged that Minister Vinod Tawde ordered his arrest when he was recording a conversation between him and a fellow student. The student, Yuvraj Dabad, also claimed that following the alleged order, the local police detained him for a couple of hours and seized his smartphone which was returned after the video-recording was deleted from it. The alleged incident took place on after Vinod Tawde inaugurated an elocution competition at a college in Amravati, Vinod Tawde was leaving after his speech at the event when some reached out to him near his vehicle, seeking his response on a free-education policy. Another student Prasant Rathod alleges that Vinod Tawde told him to get a job if he could not afford his education when asked about the free education policy. Prashant claims that Yuvraj recorded the entire exchange between him and Vinod Tawde and did not stop recording even after being told by the minister to stop after which they claim Mr. Tawde ordered the arrest of Yuvraj. Yuvraj claims he was taken off the college campus and detained in a police vehicle where his handset was taken from him and returned back to him later that evening with all his videos deleted without his permission.

Vinod Tawde denied these claims, and labelled them as false and part of a lie being spread against him.
