Atul Shah challenged the result when he lost the 2017 Corporation election to Shiv Sena's Surendra Bagalkar. Atul Shah demanded recounting of votes, once recounding was done not once but for three times and in all the three rounds, there was a tie between Atul Shah and Surendra Bagalkar. They had garnered equal number of votes. Finally, it was decided that the winner should be decided by lottery. Chits were drawn. Luck favoured BJP's Atul Shah and he was declared winner.
