Career
Baba Siddique has participated in various student movements and joined the Indian National Congress as a teenager in 1977. He went on to become the General Secretary of the Bandra Taluka of the Bandra Youth Congress in 1980 and was elected its President within the next two yours. In 1988, he became the president of the Mumbai Youth Congress and was elected Municipal Councilor in the BMC in 1992. Baba Siddique became an MLA in 1999 from the Bandra West Assembly Constituency. He was also appointed Chairman of the MHADA Mumbai Board by the Government of Maharashtra to serve from 2000-2004. Baba Siddique was also appointed Minister of State for Food & Civil Supplies, Labour, FDA and Consumer Protection for the Government of Maharashtra and served from 2004–2008. In 2011, he funded the creation of an Eco-Garden in Bandra-Khar.
Controversy
Baba Siddique was charged under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, after irregularities in a slum redevelopment project, near Bandra Reclamation by the name "Jamaat-e-Jamhooria", by Pyramid Developers.
According to senior Govt officials, the developers sold the plot for 90 Crores to Satra group and both parties agreed to share the flats equally, which they sold for approximately 1800-2000 Crores. Allegedly Mr Siddique had a hand in this due to his decision to increase the Floor Space Index (FSI), when he was the chairman of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), which is a misuse of power.
