Early & Personal Life
Arvind Sawant was born in Kumbhavade to Ganpat Pandurang Sawant and Aashalata Ganpat Sawant. He is married to Anuya Sawant, and has a son and a daughter.
He is a social worker and trade unionist.
He is a strong supporter of art and literature and actively participated in drama during his college days. He has published a book named Balkadu. He has also undertaken several projects through the Marathi Literary Board, to ensure that that traditional art forms do not get lost.
Arvind Sawant's interests include reading, traveling, listening to music (particularly old Hindi and Marathi film songs), and watching cricket.
Career
Arvind Swant began his political career at the age of 17, carrying out election duties and participating in various political agitations and movements led by the Shiv Sena.
He is the founder and president of the MTNL Kamgar Sangh, a labor union within Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd for the last 25 years, and has negotiated wage agreements of several hundreds of employees on two separate occasions without having to resort to agitations and strikes.
Taking on a strategic role in the party, Arvind Sawant helped Shiv Sena candidates win several National, State and Municipal Corporation elections, in the1995 Municipal Elections (Pune), 2007 Municipal Corporation (Pune), 2009 Lok Sabha Elections (Nagar), and 2011 Municipal Elections (Kalyan-Dombivli).
Arvind Sawant was then nominated to the Maharashtra Legislative Council. He has also served as the Deputy Leader of the Shiv Sena.
He has also played an active role in the upliftment of people belonging to the Scheduled Tribe Category, negotiating an increment of Rs 72 Crores in pay for them in MTNL and other organizations.
Some of his past work has included:
1. Conducting “Blood Donation” Camps
2. Providing aid to all the ‘Fayan’ (cyclone) affected fishermen.
3. Providing nutritious food to 450 tribal children till they became healthy.
4. As part of the environmental protection measure, providing 110 Gas Cylinders in ‘Balwadis’ and `Shegadis` of Mokhada Tal. (Tribal Tal.) Dist. Thane, Maharashtra
5. Consistently distributing cloth, food supply to tribal people.

Political Opinions
Mr Sawant is of the opinion that the land belonging to the Mumbai Port Trust along the Eastern Coastline should be used for development purposes to reduced congestion in his constituency. He is also in favour of redeveloping the BDD Chawls in Mumbai South
