Controversy

Mr Shetty claimed that the Christians were British in India, and hence the community did not participate in the freedom struggle for Independence of the country. He claimed in an interview later that his statement was misinterpreted and that he claimed that the Christian community were not participants in the Freedom Struggle, irrespective of if the British were Christians or not.

He also called farmer suicides a "fashion" and "trend" which was viewed as a mockery of farmers by him. He later claimed that he had no intention to undermine farmers and that was highlighting general patterns for policy decisions.
